Hello again! I hope you’re well?

If you read my last post about Fashion Revolution then you will be aware that I’m a huge fan of theirs and wanted to dedicate a post to the second Fanzine they launched this year named LOVED CLOTHES LAST.

LOVED CLOTHES LAST explores the issue of waste and mass-consumption in the fashion industry, and hopes to inspire you to buy less, care more, and know how to make the clothes you love last for longer.

It’s a big double-edition issue — with 124 pages of poetry, illustration, photography, infographics, and packed with articles, tips and interviews with leaders of the circular fashion movement and innovators in textile recycling.

I have decided to pick out my favourite sections which is a real challenge as all the content is fantastic and so useful. Nonetheless, here are my top 5 tips:

Buy Less & Choose Well

When it comes to shopping and wearing clothes, our actions can change everything. We should consider whether we need to buy anything at all. Can we give clothes a new lease of life? We don’t need to boycott new clothes, but we can become more demanding consumers. Demand better quality clothes that afford a better quality of life to the people who make them. Demand that each item we choose to buy and wear was made with dignity and made to last.

Recycle Clothes Responsibly

One of the most shocking sections of the Fanzine for me was seeing how long various materials take to decompose. For example, nylon tights can take 30-40 years which is astounding! Educating yourself on the best process for your old garments is key and easily accessible. See below to find a guide for where you live:

Upcycling is Easy

There are so many ways to modify your clothes these days and the Fanzine makes the argument – if your clothes are worth wearing then they are also worth repairing. I’m not exactly skilled with a needle and thread but I have loved using patches to cover worn areas or to simply freshen up one of my favourite jackets. It can make you fall in love with them all over again which is what this is all about. Just to give you some inspiration, here is a list of all the genius ways to get started…

Love Your Clothes

Clothes are powerful. They can make you feel ready to take on the world and they can provide you with a unique comfort that no human being can! (I’m talking Friday nights when you can’t wait to get your bra OFF and your PJs ON. No human can give me that same satisfaction.) Clothes shape us, they are our identity and they hold the power communicate who you are and what you stand for before you have even opened your mouth. Clothes are also a rather important ingredient for filling you with confidence and it being visible in your body language. You should always love what you’re wearing and in return, your clothes will serve you well and love you back!

Know Your Materials

You can love your clothes for longer by learning and understanding what they need. We all need a bit of looking after sometimes, why should clothes be any different? You can read how to to care for your garments below:

That’s all for now on the Fanzine but honestly there is so much brilliant content so I’m sure I will be writing about it again soon. For now, you can read the whole thing here.

Enjoy!

Love,
Annie
